A Ripple Effect - Manual Lymphatic Drainage

There is a reason Manual Lymphatic Drainage is becoming so popular. This targeted treatment helps to reduce fluid retention, and help with a range of conditions that many of us suffer from.

The role of our intricate Lymphatic System is essentially to provide fluid balance, absorption and immune support. When there is a disruption in this system it can begin to break down.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) triggers a ripple effect that helps to encourage movement of the fluid under the skin. It’s a slow, rhythmic, and superficial treatment using a light touch, gentle manipulations and super slow movements. These movements are always directed back toward the heart. The diaphragm is one of the biggest pumps of the lymphatic system so there is a large emphasis on breath work throughout this treatment - deep belly breathing.

Our aim is to help encourage the process of directing the fluid towards working nodes and vessels, to help filter toxins from the body to help support your immune system.

MLD can be beneficial for:

  • Fluid retention

  • Lymphoedema

  • Sinusitis

  • Hay fever

  • Pain relief

  • IBS

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Post sporting

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

  • Golfers elbow

  • Tennis elbow

  • Bruising

  • Oedema

Lymphatic massage is not recommended for people with the following conditions:

  • Congestive heart failure

  • History of blood clots or stroke

  • Current infection

  • Liver problems

  • Kidney problems

How to best support your lymphatic system:

  • Move your body

  • Follow a healthy diet (lots of green leafy and coloured vegtable, berries, white oily fish, free range eggs - to name a few)

  • Enure you are drinking enough water (2L daily)

  • Do what you can to lower stress in your life

  • Belly breathing - Bring the air in through the nose and down toward the belly

  • Dry body brushing is an easy extra

(Remember to direct your brushing to the heart working each extremity proximal to distal)
